Realistic ways to make money online in 2018 (Italy, Europe, International)

In my first reddit post I would like to share my experience about realistic ways to make money online in 2018.

I live in Italy so everything posted here was tested in my country but should work for Europeans too and even international in many cases for what I know.

I will share with you what I tried, what worked for me and what didn't (but may work for you).

I tried to categorize websites/apps by type adding (favourite) if I think it is worth the time/pay.

It will be a long post because I want to be as accurate as possible.

It is my first reddit post and english is not my mother tongue so I apologize in advance for any mistakes.

It took me many months of researches and failures to accumulate this knowledge and I will share it with all of you for free.

The only thing I ask, since I am unemployed, is if you could use my referral links but most of all if you could share them in other places online when you help other people make some money.

It would help me A LOT.

Thanks for anything you awesome people of reddit could do.

Let's start!

CASE STUDIES

You can browse between research studies and apply to the ones that fit your category.

Examples: "Are you planning to open a new bank account? (45$ - 30 min)"

If you fit this position you can apply and do the screener survey.

After that you may be recontacted by the researcher who will ask you to schedule a videocall (they used Google Hangouts in my case) at the day/hour of your choice .

Often they ask you to record a video of yourself while you use a website or app and to send them the video (they provide you with the free tools to do so).

I did it and got paid so it works.

Researchers post their tests, you do them and get paid.

I was paid even today and you can cashout every 5 pounds. It took me just a 5,6 tests do reach that.

Easy but tests disappear quickly so keep that tab open!

ONLINE TESTING

Pays you to test websites and record yourself while you share your opinions.

They give you a rating from 1 to 5 stars which is adjusted everytime you take a test.

More stars means they will give you more tests afaik.

Fitting in the screener surveys is hard because sometimes they are looking just for German people or Japanese speakers or brewery workers etc. but I passed some of them and got paid.

Most participants can expect one to two tests per week.

Main problem is that tests disappears so quickly!

Same as UserTesting.

Main problem is that tests disappears so quickly! Even with tab opened and me in front of the computer, by the time I reach the start test screen a user has already taken it!

Note: it is mandatory to use the latest version of their software and it requires Java. :(

They ask you to install a chrome extension and then send you an email when a test is available.

I got many emails for desktop and mobile tests but as soon as I click them the test is complete or too many people trying to do it.

Pay example: 70$ for a 60 minutes test.

Same as UserTesting.

Subscribed but still waiting for tests.

You get games to play while you record your opinions about them.

Subscribed but have still no games to test.

REMOTE WORKING COMPANIES

I applied for the social media evaluator position but in the end got accepted for other projects (it may happen with them).

Project 1) I had to make 4 calls, 15 minutes each about a topic chosen among a few. I did it, they paid me. End of job.

Project 2) Annotation/Transcription project. You have to do a mandatory test divided in 2 parts: annotation and transcription. If I don't go wrong they ask for 100% accuracy.

I failed both so they asked me to retake the test and finally passed the annotation one so they assigned me to that project.

They ask you to assign a tag to each audio file following the guidelines they sent you.

They require you to tag 100 files per day with at least 80% accuracy.

It may be tricky sometimes. My first day I did 220 and the following days I got no more batches to do. When I asked why I was told they terminated my account because I did not reach 80% accuracy.

No more Appen work.

Applied for the Map Rater position.

Mandatory hard test divided in 2 parts: theory questions and maps results rating.

It is an open book exam but to pass it you have to study the 220 pages guidelines pdf + 20 pages country specific guidelines pdf.

Passed on my first try! After a few days I started working.

Pay is 0,35 euro per CORRECT result rated.

Each result has 4 parameters to rate and if you fail just one of four the result is considered incorrect and NOT paid.

Also they require I think something like 80% accuracy and if you fail to meet it... you guessed it: account disabled.

It happened to me and they email and even called me asking to retake another test to reactivate my account.

I didn't because of low pay / too much time to rate results.

Job ended.

APPS

I tried many apps because I wanted to make money using my smartphone but I failed.

Here is what I tried:

Basically, you download the app and get paid to have conversations with non-English speakers. You do not need any previous experience and you are able to work anytime you want. You are free to set your own hourly rate. Payments are made twice a month with Paypal. The app is available for both Apple and Android.

It is mandatory to have a Payoneer account with a BANK account associated (no paypal).

They ask you to write a brief about you and record a video when you introduce yourself.

Tried a few days ago but they told me there is no position available at the moment.

This app is very similar to Palfish. You are doing basically the same thing — having conversations with non-English speakers and getting paid for it. You are paid per minute of talk time, and on the site it claims $10 hourly is what you'd earn if you were active for a full hour. You can get paid weekly with Paypal as long a you have $20 in your account.

Available for both Apple and Android.

They rejected me.

It is an app where you choose a "mission" where you have to go to a certain market or store and take a picture of a product or describe things etc.

Low Pay. Few missions. If I did all of them the pay was something like 30€ but you have to use your car so you have to subtract the gas costs.

one of those apps where you have to download other apps of subscribe to paid websites to get points.

To get a 10$ Paypal card you must accumulate 12500 points.

Downloading an app get you something like 20/30 points.

Same as App Karma

Downloading an app get you something like 20/30 points.

To get a 2,5$ Paypal card you must accumulate 2500 points.

You earn 5$ for each photo you sell but it is REALLY HARD to do that.

People with 12000 photos have like 100 photos sold and I don't know how much time got them to reach those results

It pays to show ads before you unlock your phone.

Angry people on the play store say the company deleted their points when they were about to reach cashout.

Same as BeMyEye but not enough missions.

WEBSITES THAT PAY YOU TO DO VARIOUS TASKS

I did some surveys. Hard to fit into what they ask for but it pays.

Best website of this type for italian users (Swagbucks is not available in Italy yet).

PAYS ONLY IN AMAZON.COM GIFT CARDS at least here in Italy.

Subscribed but majority of tasks are for US people.

First task I tried wasn't paid because I passed the 30 minutes limit time.

Second task they did not give me the end code to be paid.

Majority of hits are paid a few euro cents.

Majority of apps to earn points are not available in Italy and just with the other options is too hard to get points imho.

9000 points to get 5 € Paypal.

Majority of apps to earn points are not available in Italy and just with the other options is too hard to get points imho.

SURVEYS

I don't lose my time with survey sites anymore.

Majority of them let you do the first survey and then there are no more (examples of this behaviour: iSay, Alta Opinione, MySurvey, etc.

Some of them send you one 50 point survey a week and you have to collect like 3000 points to get a 25€ amazon gift card (example YouGov).

The most famous for italian users is Toluna but I quitted and here is why:

  • your points will be deleted after 16 months.
  • to get 35€ paypal you need 145.000 points.
  • after a few months I was just at 9000.

Often you start doing a survey and after a few questions they kick you out because "the number of users for this survey has reached limits" or "survey is closed" etc.

Sounds fishy to me.

GENERIC FREELANCING WEBSITES

They often say that the quickest way to make money online is as a freelancer.

Maybe it is true but I failed at it using the majority of suggested websites.

Bids website.

The freelancer has 8 free bids per month with the free account.

Otherwise you have to buy a premium account or buy credits needed to bid.

In most cases, even with the free bids, many job posts requires your account to have a certification = online tests provided by freelancer.com you have to pay to attend.

Es. English test is 5 euros.

Biggest freelancing italian website.

Just as freelancer.com you need credits to apply to job posts and you start with ZERO.

Majority of job posts are for developers and graphic/video artists.

Mandatory VAT number ("Partita iva" in Italian).

I was rejected because they already had many people with my skills (english-italian translations, writing, etc.).

Majority of job posts are for developers and graphic/video artists.

Aimed at web projects for marketers, SEO specialists, and software engineers - Freelancers can send 15 proposals to clients for free before they will need to sign up for a paid plan

WRITING FREELANCE WEBSITES

First of all here is an italian summary of writing for freelance websites

And now some websites:

Bad reputation: many unpaid workers, slave rates.

Read this quote when looking for user reviews: "I got a -75 cent penality for a 2 euro article"

Subscribed as author. They ask you to write a simple text to give you a rating and I was rated 3 star but work is available only for 4 stars up. They pay 1,3 euro cent/word.

Subscribed. Still waiting for access because they have too many people already working.

As you can see I did all my best to share with you everything I discovered during those bloody months ot trials and errors because I am unemployed.

If you would love to help me please use my referral links and share them in other places online.

It would help me A LOT.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
